Introducing Portuguese Podengo Medio Smooth Coat to America

Our story began fourteen years ago with a search for a dog, that
would be medium size, healthy breed, low maintenance, athletic,
smart and friendly.

After visiting dog shows we could not decide on a breed that would
fulfil our criteria, so finally we went to  SPCA and SF  Animal
Care/Pound where we met our STAR.  

Star quickly proved to be more remarkable than we could have
imagined...her intelligence, inquisitiveness, sensitivity to our needs,
energy and independence yet flexibility,  all quickly led us to try and
figure out what she was a mix of...surely part Basenji or Ibizan
hound and...??  

After two years of  guessing, we found in the international
Encyclopedia of  Dogs our Star...not a mix but a Portuguese Podengo
Medio Smooth Coat!

The next six years were spent trying to find a breeder.  We finally
found a Portuguese  breeder of the small Podengos (the Pequenos) ,
who urged us to come to Portugal to attend the Monographica = the
annual  Podengo  breed show.

We went on our quest for Star and as the saying goes...the rest is
history.  

On April 13, 2006 our Quest and Gaia produced the first Medio
Smooth Coat litter in America [4 boys and 2 girls.]
